Edwin Bonnen brings a remarkably diverse background to his role as
Business Manager and Marketing Director at Kauffman Photography. In a previous life
he coached high school football. His work with children and volunteers at
Big Brothers/Big Sisters included volunteer training, counseling families and volunteers
and producing the agency newsletter. It was at this time that he spent a year and a half
studying photography. As a Vocational Services Director for the local Tri County Mental
Health Agency in the early 1980's he worked with local businesses to help mentally ill
people live independently and find work. Before joining Kauffman Photography he
spent a year working with the local hospice organization as the Family Service
Director training volunteers and serving the terminally ill and their families. Over the
years Ed has studied economics, accounting, marketing, business adminstration and
computer technologies at our local community college.
The combination of communication and business skills along with a solid
photography foundation makes Ed is an ideal person with whom a client can
begin discussions regarding a project. He knows the questions to ask and
listens carefully with the goal of precisely defining project specifications. This
ensures accurate estimates and a smooth project that meets customers' needs.
Private consultations with artists on portfolio development and marketing/business plans
are also part of Ed's repertoire. He excels in helping artists pinpoint the strengths
in their work while assisting in editing, organizing and sequencing portfolios. His
experience representing a variety of commercial artists in addition to his regular
conversations with art buyers gives him a distinct perspective on marketing to a very
tough audience.
Ed passionately believes that educating students and current practitioners in
photography and the allied fields about intellectual property and associated business
practices will ultimately benefit all creatives. To that end he frequently guest lectures
on business planning for artists and photographers.
Ed's solid business foundation and people skills bring a unique set of qualities to
Kauffman Photography and its customers.
